Expression, Distribution and Role of Aquaporin Water Channels in Human and Animal Stomach and Intestines

چکیده
Stomach and intestines are involved in the secretion of gastrointestinal fluids and the absorption of nutrients and fluids, which ensure normal gut functions. Aquaporin water channels (AQPs) represent a major transcellular route for water transport in the gastrointestinal tract. Until now, at least 11 AQPs (AQP1-11) have been found to be present in the stomach, small and large intestines. These AQPs are distributed in different cell types in the stomach and intestines, including gastric epithelial cells, gastric glands cells, absorptive epithelial cells (enterocytes), goblet cells and Paneth cells. AQP1 is abundantly distributed in the endothelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract. AQP3 and AQP4 are mainly distributed in the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells in the stomach and intestines. AQP7, AQP8, AQP10 and AQP11 are distributed in the apical of enterocytes in the small and large intestines. Although AQP-null mice displayed almost no phenotypes in gastrointestinal tracts, the alterations of the expression and localization of these AQPs have been shown to be associated with the pathology of gastrointestinal disorders, which suggests that AQPs play important roles serving as potential therapeutic targets. Therefore, this review provides an overview of the expression, localization and distribution of AQPs in the stomach, small and large intestine of human and animals. Furthermore, this review emphasizes the potential roles of AQPs in the physiology and pathophysiology of stomach and intestines.

Expression of related proteins and aquaporin genes in grape (Vitis vinifera L.) under salinity sress
Due to worldwide increasing of salinity, the identification of genes conferring tolerance to plants is important. The aim of this study was to investigate salinity effects on the expression of three genes-related to proteins and aquaporin in grape (Vitis vinifera L.). Based on screening study on 18 grape genotypes, H6 and Gharashani that showed lower decrease in water potential, leaf area, leaf...

Aquaporins are the main proteins in the plasma membrane, which facilitates the movement of water, carbon dioxide, and other small soluble material through the membrane. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of root acuporine on the physiological, biochemical and biochemical changes and water relations under drought stress. For this purpose, a study was conducted in a completely rand...
متن کاملO21: Aquaporinopathy and Cerebral Inflammation
Many mammalian AQPs, including AQP1, AQP2, AQP4, AQP5 and AQP8, function primarily as bidirectional water-selective transporters. Cells expressing AQPs on their plasma membrane have an ~5- to 50-fold higher osmotic water permeability than membranes that do not. Water transport through single-file pores poses a biophysical limitation on the efficiency with which AQPs can transport water, so that...
متن کاملDynamic regulation of aquaporin-4 water channels in neurological disorders
Aquaporin-4 water channels play a central role in brain water regulation in neurological disorders. Aquaporin-4 is abundantly expressed at the astroglial endfeet facing the cerebral vasculature and the pial membrane, and both its expression level and subcellular localization significantly influence brain water transport. However, measurements of aquaporin-4 levels in animal models of brain inju...
